The earliest Known production date of this Cider Cheese Cutter is around 1900.
A cheese cutter or slicer is used for cutting large rounds of cheese. The Cutter has a large round iron base with a round piece of wood on top of the base. Also attached is a large iron handle with a large guillotine style sharp blade which cuts the cheese.
The cheese cutter was a big, round object made of iron and wood. The base turned when the blade was up, so shopkeepers could measure out just the amount you wanted. Then the blade was brought down to make a clean, quick cut. Scale companies manufactured most cheese cutters, and the old ones have become very rare over the last few years. In the early days, every Old Country Store had a cheese cutter for rounds of cheese.
