History Of The Artefact:
The production dates of this Plow Plane are from 1875 to 1885.
This wood Moulding (Screw-Arm) Plow Plane tool was used to create wooden mouldings for various items and furnishings of houses and ships.
The tool was made from a rectangular wooden block cut from a variety of hardwood trees and has a metal blade to shape wood pieces. One end of the tool is shaped into a handle with 2 adjustable threaded wooden rods through the center and on top a brass turning knob or (screw-arm).
This Artefact is part of a collection of 21 molding planes, most of them are handmade and were used by a ship's carpenter to do finish work on cabins at the Ellis & Richards Shipyard.
